Mahrya MacIntire is a two-time Emmy® Award nominee and DOC NYC 40 Under 40 filmmaker.

Her work explores topics related to community (re)building, trauma healing, and neurodivergence, from an embodied perspective. Fascinated with the intersection of visual anthropology, pattern illumination, and creative strategy, she approaches each project as a kinetic historical collage.

Mahrya produced her third feature for HBO in 2024 with AN AMERICAN BOMBING: THE ROAD TO APRIL 19TH, nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Historical Documentary” in 2025. She also supervised the archive, which spanned over 50 years of recent history. Executive produced by Katie Couric, the film explores the surge in anti-government ideals and political violence in the 1980s, leading to the Oklahoma City bombing and continuing today.

Previously, Mahrya was the lead producer on THE SLOW HUSTLE (HBO, 2021) with director Sonja Sohn (actor - THE WIRE). Nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Crime and Justice Documentary” in 2022, the film is a searing look at the havoc caused by corruption within the Baltimore Police Department, through the prism of a veteran officer’s mysterious death, as local journalists, family, and the community strive to find the truth. She also co-produced the Cinema Eye Honors and NAMIC Vision Award-winning documentary BALTIMORE RISING (HBO, 2017) with Ms. Sohn, which follows activists, police officers, community leaders, and gang affiliates, who struggle to hold Baltimore together in the wake of Freddie Gray's death in police custody and explores how to make change when change is hard.

Her efforts as associate producer on indie doc feature ANOTHER WAY OF LIVING (2015) included managing the creation of an extensive digital archive containing thousands of hi-res scans, hundreds of hours of footage, and dozens of transcribed oral histories, all catalogued to aid future research at the Reston Historic Trust & Museum. She supervised the live recording of an original score for the film.

Mahrya was selected by DOC NYC to join their 40 Under 40 class of 2024. She is a member of the Producers Guild of America and the Television Academy. In addition to HBO, her work has screened at AFI DOCS, DOC NYC, IDFA, Urbanworld, the National Building Museum, Georgetown Law School, University of Virginia, Johns Hopkins, University of Oklahoma, and George Mason University. She has also contributed to projects for Netflix, PBS, Glamour magazine, FKA Twigs, and VICE.

Mahrya teaches in the Film & Media Arts program at American University. She has served on the George Mason University Film School Advisory Board since 2022 and enjoys mentoring students through internship opportunities with her and partner Jay Hutchinson’s production company, STILLWORKS PICTURES.

Based in Washington, DC, Mahrya is a graduate of the Film and Television Production program at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. She is currently in development on her doc feature directorial debut. When she's not on location or at her desk, she can often be found filming macros in the woods or cozied up with her cats.

Detailed resume available upon request. Available for travel where needed.

Accepts consulting, speaking, and teaching opportunities as her schedule allows.

The doc competition is always fierce, but I am incredibly proud of the work we did on AN AMERICAN BOMBING; of the parallels, patterns, and connections threaded through contemporary US history. Thank you to @theemmys.tv for the nomination, Nancy Abrah

@tarastillionswhitehead was one of the first people I met when I entered film school at USC in 2002 and I have always admired her and her work. It was an honor to speak with Tara, @prof_krista_imbesi, and their film students @messiah_univ last week.
I had so much fun filming the Adventure Racing National Championship, even in the 60mph wind and rain. Depending on the course teams charted for themselves, they trekked and biked 70-120 miles for 30 hours through the majestic wilderness of the Monon
